Chilewich

The New York based designer Sandy Chilewich is the founder and creative director of Chilewich | Sultan LLC, a company managed with her partner and husband Joe Sultan. For the last three decades and with two distinct businesses, Chilewich has reinterpreted underutilized and overlooked manufacturing practices. During the last 12 years, Chilewich has designed innovative textiles for numerous applications.

Chilewich’s Plynyl w2w and tile flooring are Green Label Plus certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute. These guidelines are written to protect indoor air quality by mandating low VOC products. The certification is rigorously enforced by mandatory testing 4 times a year. Green Label Plus certification is recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council and therefore our w2w and Tile earn LEED points.

All Chilewich Contract products contain Microban®. Microban antimicrobial protection works continuously for the lifetime of the product to inhibit the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria, mold, and mildew. Microban protection is ideal for any healthcare, hospitality, home or office environment where microbes are a concern.

Chilewich’s Upholstery fabrics are now covered by the internationally recognized GreenGuard program certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. The goal of GreenGuard is to protect human health and quality of life through the reduction of chemical exposure and improve indoor air quality. This certification is also recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council and therefore our Upholstery fabrics also earn LEED points.

All our products are installed using low VOC adhesives. Our products are washed with water and bio-degradable detergents, are made in the USA, and have a long life cycle. We’re voluntarily using PVC approved for use in the European Community (the US doesn’t have a standard as yet). And we’re scouring the country to find companies that can recycle our materials.
